The History of David Yurman
David Yurman is one of the premiere jewelry designers in the United States with 18 boutiques across the country including New York and Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills. His company has also established itself as one of the leading global jewelry brands. Today his jewelry is worn by a host of celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Kanye West, Charlize Theron, Kate Bosworth, Jaime Pressly, Renee Zellweger, Teri Hatcher and many other celebrities and A-Listers !
So who is David Yurman and where does he come from ?
Well, David Yurman was born on the 12th October 1942 in Long Island, New York. 
David’s father was a craftsman and from an early age he was fascinated with design and art. Whilst still at school he started selling small sculptures from the cafeteria and it wasn’t long before the attraction of being a designer became too much for Yurman and he decided to drop out of college.
Yurman was a college drop-out in the swinging sixties and before too long he started mixing with other bohemian artists from that time such as Norman Mailer, Ken Kasey and the painter Franz Kline.
By the end of the decade David had apprenticeships with a number of influential sculptors including Jacques Lipchitz who had previously worked with Modigliani and Picasso !
Whilst working in Greenwich Village David met a talented painter by the name of Sybil Kleinrock and the two soon became a couple. Sybil became a muse for David and he started creating his first pieces of jewelry for her. By a chance encounter a gallery owner spotted Sybil wearing one of David’s jewelry designs and enquired as to whether it was for sale. David wasn’t comfortable replicating a design that had such personal significance for him however the seed of opportunity had been well and truly planted.
The couple decided to move out of the city and into the countryside which is where they created their first company, Putnam Art Works. Their business gave them a solid understanding of the jewelry and craft market and helped to build the brand that became David Yurman.
By the mid 1980’s 
the David Yurman brand moved to another level with his famous “cable bracelet”. This became, and remains, his signature piece. The David Yurman cable bracelet was a new twist on a classic design that Yurman first saw in some antique Celtic jewelry. It consists of separate strands of silver braided together to give a “cable rope” appearance to the jewelry.
Estimates are that hundreds of thousands of David Yurman bracelets have been sold since he got into the business over thirty years ago. The David Yurman cable bracelet has been consistently popular and remains the bedrock of the company's jewelry collection so much so that Yurman now has many different varieties of cable bracelets to choose from whether that be in smaller or larger sizes or in different materials such as gold or silver.
The cable design isn’t limited to just his bracelet collection as it also features heavily in other jewelry pieces he designs such as earrings, rings and necklaces.
There is a wide and varied selection of pieces to choose from in the David Yurman collection. As mentioned previously, the bracelets are arguably the best seller in the collection but David Yurman rings are also extremely popular. With his ring collection Yurman is able to explore different and exciting combinations of gemstones and silver (he does design with other metals but silver is by far his favorite).
The David Yurman blue topaz ring is a perfect example of how the inspiring cable bracelet design is prevalent in so many other David Yurman pieces. Set in sterling silver in a cable braided mount lies a chunky piece of blue topax and the combination of cool blue and steely sterling silver are stunning.
Of course a jeweler can’t create rings without being tempted to design wedding rings, the ultimate symbol of love and romance and so David Yurman engagement rings and wedding rings are becoming some of the best selling items in the whole collection !
People may assume that this master jeweler only creates jewelry for women but not with Yurman. His men’s collection is equal to the women’s collection in terms of choice and variety.
Yes, there are men’s bracelets centered around a more masculine theme and in more recent years the leather braided bracelet has become very, very popular with a long line of celebrities parading around in one.
Designer jewellery is very popular these days, especially with celebrities. Finally the Fine Jewelry collection features a range of watches bejewelled with diamonds and blends the artistic strengths of David Yurman with the technique and precision of a master watch maker.

Finally, any luxury designer worth their salt wouldn’t be complete without their own fragrance line and David Yurman doesn’t disappoint in this department as even the perfume bottles are a work of art.
