On a trip to France David Yurman was fortunate enough to see the process by which such a cognac is distilled and blended and the care and attention that is given to a product that can only really be enjoyed decades after it’s been produced. The motto being, “you can’t rush quality”.

And so, inspired by this experience David Yurman began designing a timepiece which he felt would deserve the name of the “Ancestrale” timepiece.

The Ancestrale watch is described as “ultra exclusive” and even on David Yurman’s website it is the only David Yurman watch that has no price next to it which brings to mind the old saying, “if you need to ask the price then you can’t afford it”.

We think it is a really beautiful watch featuring the trademark David Yurman cable design on the side of the case.

We’ve heard that a few varieties of the Ancestrale will be available but get this……in limited edition quantities of as low as 25 of each watch !!!

It’s proving difficult to find a price for this luxury timepiece although we have tried. Of course, that doesn’t mean to say we can afford it but it’s always nice to know

David Yurman has come a long way since those early days in New York when he was starting out and he would probably agree it’s been an interesting journey.

Only he knows if he had any inkling that his jewelry would be sold around the world and worn by A-List stars but if you don’t have a dream then you will get nowhere and Yurman’s dream was to pursue his vision of creating jewelry that he felt had soul. That simple formula set him on his way and he hasn’t looked back since.

So does this mean that Yurman will hand over the reigns to a younger successor ? We hope not as he hasn’t lost his eye for a beautiful design and as other older designers such as Giorgio Armani have taught us-the creative output of a designer can often improve with age. The years helps to refine a designer’s sense of style allowing trult beautiful creations to be made.

We haven’t heard any news of whether any special David Yurman jewelry will be created to mark his 70th birthday but we’ll keep you posted if we hear anything.

We should first point out that David Yurman do provide a cleaning and polishing service for jewelry you have bought from them. Please enquire at your local DY store. Customer who have had this done say they are charged around the $ 50 – $ 100 mark but may differ depending on the piece you need cleaning. However, some customers say their DY store do the cleaning for free. We recommend you go to your local store and enquire.

If the store offers to do it for free then we’re assuming they will do the cleaning “on site” and possibly while you wait. Even this can make a dramatic improvement to your jewelry. If the piece is sent away for cleaning then you can expect a more through cleaning and polishing and we’re guessing this is when charges may apply for the process.

Another option is to contact a local jewelers and ask them how much they would charge to clean your jewelry.

Having a professional do this for you gives many customers piece of mind but there’s many occasions when you should be able to do it yourself quite easily.

One thing to bear in mind is that the material that David Yurman favours the most is Sterling silver and by it’s very nature is a soft metal. Getting scratches and dents on silverware is part of the package of wearing silver jewelry.

Daid Yurman should also provide special cleaning cloths for your jewelry. Use these as they’re specially designed to be non-abrasive and so won’t damage your jewelry.

One final tip. Don’t wear your David Yurman jewelry when in the swimming pool as the chlorine will tarnish the metal and could even cloud the gemstones.
